IMPACTS

  • - The Majority of the support team has now time to focus more on connecting with visitors
  • - The majority of the support team has the space now to focus on meet and weave collaborations with people from local organisations that work on regenerating the region
  • - We can now log how many local producers we support beyond the producers who are physically present during the market
  • - We can better restock the inventory, because we know how much we sell of each product over time.

Objectives

Our goal was to create a more efficient digital administrative system for the mercado verde that would enable the support team of the market table more time for connecting to visitors

Why did you do this action? How did you know this action was needed? Or what led to the decision to do it?

The support team was spending a lot of time on calculating who needs to be paid what amount and we didn’t know well what was in the inventory. This made it difficult to run a smooth process with the producers that the market table sells the products for.

What happened? Share what participating in the action was like, and anything you'd like others to learn from what you did!

So, we upgraded the admin system to a digital admin that is being done by one of the members of the support team. We got help from one of the temporary volunteers who was good with excel and taught me how to make these types of systems in a google sheet. Now, we can log better how many products are being sold through the market table from different producers, what it does to the inventory and how much the market table owes different producers.

What challenges did you face? What did you learn?

It was insightful to learn the different tools that google sheets has to make easy calculations / consolidations possible. The design of the admin system was a nice challenge to make it simple, useful, and at the same time detailed enough implementation of the new system needed some time to find the right people that wanted to help with ensuring the admin was done right and support the local producers who are not that skilled in digital technology.
