objective
We built a tank to collect rainwater to use in the garden and in case of emergency

IMPACTS

  • - 12 people helped with labor and design
  • - Many gallons of water have been stored and used
  • - We lowered the water bill.
  • - The garden now receives water free of chemicals
  • - The tank is also a bench for sitting
  • - The tank replaced a rotten deck, creating a new space with purpose
...

We have a lot of rain here and decided it would be smart to collect and use some of that water. We had different community members come together for the design and build of the project. The tank holds water and serves its purpose. It also makes a nice seating area in the garden. The difficult part was having people with different ideas of how it should be done. At first the top was not level and caused some flooding with the runoff which was later fixed. I would recommend having someone on site with a lot of concrete experience who has built water holding devices before.
