Onchain reaction

When Oppenheimer was designing the world's first nuclear bomb, was he imagining the human potential for explosive creation as opposed to destruction?

As the community development work continues on the ground here in Sicily, integrating permaculture principles using blockchain infrastructure, the collective consciousness is starting to shift. When there is one example of something working, then the meme spreads with every new mind remixing and recreating the idea through their own personal context, reflecting and solidifying the culture in a new yet familiar way back to the whole.

Last weekend we had one such critical mass experience. Last summer, a friend Matteo had lost both trees and his beehives on his family land to a brutal fire. He was one of many who had suffered from the increasing intensity of fires throughout Sicily. Responding to the crisis, he was able to create an opportunity and organized a donation drive to replant native trees in the damaged area. Over the course of a few months, enough money was raised to plant 40 trees. We hosten an online video call before the in person event to go over the project which you can watch here in Italian.

Now that the trees were ready to go into the ground, members of Rifai Sicilia reached out to him to offer to host the event on Mego. Through our mutual promotion efforts, we were able to raise more funds to plant more trees while helping to organize more participants to help with the planting. You can see the onchain event page here.

We were blessed with beautiful weather on the day of the tree planting. After a speech from Matteo, and a welcome by the mayor of the small town of Salaparuta, we all took turns planting our adopted trees including Matteo's grandmother. While the work only took under two hours, we celebrated with food and wine for many hours afterwards.

This social connection helped cement the deeper technological ideas of dMRV. The trees that Rifai Sicilia adopted were uploaded to the Silvi Protocol, and now we have a new member site online.

As there were a few members from Rifai Sicilia in attendance we were all busy discussing what events we wanted to host in the coming months. Another woman who is a psychologist and who recently bought some farmland after finishing her permaculture design course wants to host animal therapy retreats.

The critical mass of mutual support enhanced by digital technologies will propel our budding project to the next stage of growth.

To commemorate the event, we made a POAP so we can enjoy the moment onchain forever.
