IMPACTS
Hi Everyone !
Water is so precious, and even knowing that we sometimes participate in polluting it, many times not knowing that this is happening.
It takes curiosity and efforts to protect water from being contaminated. I have been working on setting up a grey water filter in a creek, at the spring. you can read in my reports where it tell the story.
Every 2 or 3 days I go to the spring in the neighbor s property and do the maintenance of the filter :
As you can see there are 2 metal frames that filter the big particles, if i don't come clean it, the screen would end up saturating and the water would overflow.
Every month i need to do a deeper clean up, when I collect all the grease that float in the first container(Picture below), at that time i also need to remove the finer particles that fall at the bottom of each container.
I also need to walk along the pipe to make sure there are no branches have fallen on it, that could affect the filter and they grey water would overflow in the spring.
Protecting water it is possible, it comes with maintenance and attention.
Recently I built new frames for the filters :
The last ones were made out of hard wood but didn't like the water and ended up breaking. Metal will rust in this environment but it will take a long time.
Also I made a small sign, and named the creek "Baruvia Creek" in spanish "Quebrada Baruvia". This name came from Danibelle at some point. Naming the creek it's a way for more people to notice that it exists, and that we are protecting it.
When people pass by to go to Diamante Luz, they can see the sign.
It is an invitation for Adults and Children to go there an see the creek. I cleared up the access and made some trails, so people can walk around and connect with the water.
So far I have been the only one taking care of the filters, but that is not my goal, I am still setting up the system and making sure it is working, to be able to bring more people in.
Also I am looking to talk to the neighbors soon and share with them the idea of having this creek as a pilot project, in that way I will be able to bring more people in this project as well as getting permission to bring small groups of people to visit the spring and the system we are using.
Like in many projects, success passes by proper communication. In that case : With the neighbors, with the members of the DBC association and with the local community. And on Social media.
I ll share more about this project for sure ;)
Hasta Luego !
