Free The Food - First Jackfruits By The Soccer Field - Clean Roadsides !

Free the food : Planting fruit trees in public spaces.

It has been 4 years since this project started, the vision is : walk in a world where there are fruit trees in parks, roadsides, by rivers, around soccer fields, in community gardens…

The dream is that anywhere we go, we can snack on some fruits, coconut water, discover new fruits…

Planting fruit trees is relatively easy, but we can’t just do that, we have to maintain what we plant as well as what grows around it. And in the tropic at our altitude, everything grows pretty fast, trees and weeds…

The last 2 months we worked few days on cleaning up the street side of the community garden. This part as been challenging because it has been overgrown for many years with giant grass. As it seemed unoccupied, people took the habit to throw trash and alcohol bottles in this land. We collected 3 trash bags and over 50 bottles, to be recycled..

Now that we cleaned this spot, we will plant it with flowers and make it alive, in that way people will stop throwing trash there.

We planted dwarf coconuts and some berry bushes on this freshly cut roadside, more to come :)

Also I am very happy to announce that the Jackfruit and Chempedak trees by the soccer field are giving their first fruits ! And they are delicious!

This is very exiting : Last week I was at the meeting to organize an event with 8 locals from Costa Rica and that was the first time they tried a Chempedak (jack fruit family).

These trees are now part of the village, I got the encouragement to plant more fruit trees around the soccer field, I am very happy about that :)

To me it is something pretty special to plant a fruit tree in a public area.

Public spaces are our shared Altars... Fruit trees are beautiful and magical pieces to add to it.

Fruits and shade, why not ??
