IMPACTS

  • - 1 acre prepared for planting
  • - 15 rows broadforked
  • - seeds ordered
  • - irrigation repaired and reset
  • - nitrogen applied
  • - micronutrients sprayed

Preparing the farm for the season required Clearing out plant debris, fertilizing, seed ordering, researching new varieties. We also had to replace broken valves and drip tape in the irrigation system and flush out dirt that collected in the drip tape from using ditch water.

Some beds were broadforked to aerate them to a depth of about a foot, but thanks to our no-till practices, most of our soil was in good enough shape to not require too much prep. We also fertilized for the year. The soil is better balanced this year, not requiring Calcium, having a better pH as a result and having less micronutrient imbalances. We used feathermeal(ground up feathers) as a nitrogen source and will supplement this with sprayed fish nutrients, kelp, humic acid and biodynamic compost.

Our volunteers and fellow Bloom leader Matty all helped make this possible.

I dig it!
