Four Seasons Gardening: FALL workshop @ LSI
Between March 21st and 23rd, Muda's partners from the Candomblé house Ylê Asé Egi Omim hosted the 3rd 'Encontro de Jovens no Terreiro', an experience that brings together young people from different backgrounds to reflect on the formation, resistance, and support networks of black peripheral peoples from religions of African origin. The gathering was free, with food, accommodation, and transportation assistance. The young participants (from 15 to 29 years old) were nominated by the house, terreiro, collective, quilombo, NGO, or school they were part of.
The 'Encontro de Jovens no Terreiro' was a three-day immersion to build knowledge, strengthen networks, and honor our ancestry. On Friday, we met and got to know each other, watched the film ORI, by Beatriz Nascimento, and opened the doors to this journey. On Saturday, we dived into the experiences and reflections: we talked about water, alternative economies with Muda Outras Economias product stand, and learned about the history of the famous black writer Carolina Maria de Jesus and about the Hip-Hop dance in Paraíba. In the evening, we met in art, in the soiree, in music, and in the joy of meeting. On Sunday, we followed the forest paths, reflected, created, and ended this exchange with our collective fanzine.
At the Youth Gathering, we had the opportunity to think about new ways of being in the world, including the way we relate to the economy. During the Muda Outras Economias circle conversation, we explored concepts such as money, abundance, and complementary currencies, understanding how the economy can be circular, collective, and more connected to the realities of our territories. It was an afternoon of exchange and learning, recognizing talents, and creating bridges. Because another economy is not only possible, but is already happening!
