Higaonon tribe is living in the mountainous parts of Rogongo Iligan City, Lanao del Norte. This indigenous people are suffering decades problems in their local communities. Challenges are very difficult for them to address since they had been the victims of injustices in their ancestral domains. Outsiders had been the major problems in the tribal communities.

To tackle, address and ultimately overcome the major, decades-long problems and abuse of local lands, rainforest depletion, loss, and neglect, poverty and the appalling social consequences they have created, this Project has established several positive outcomes for the Higa-onon tribe in Lanao del Norte:

The following are the major goals to address tribal ancestral landscape injustices:

  1. Restore 10 hectares denuded ancestral landscape in Tawagon Rogongon Iligan City
  2. Provide income generating project through growing coffee to address poverty.

The project activities are the following:

  1. Establish nursery
  2. Land Clearing
  3. Sticking
  4. Digging
  5. Planting
  6. Maintenance

These had been implemented within an initial 1 Year Project; a new and positive and desired outcomes that principally:

  1. Restored: 10 the denuded mountains through reforestation of native trees and agroforestry
  2. Created: sustainable sources of income through coffee green economy and agroforestry that create coffee community enterprise.
  3. Achieved: this new income through harvest of coffee products to benefit the 100 direct beneficiaries from Higaonon tribe to fight poverty
  4. Positioned:  a new land and climate management focus and discipline
  5. Delivered:  a “solution” to meet the needs of both the tribe and nature
  6. Developed: new opportunities, ambition, and optimism – for young and old
  7. Presented:  new training, education, jobs, and income
  8. Returned:  pride and respect to these natural people and their lands
