objective
We taught over 25 people about living systems stewardship and how to practice ecosystem-supportive gardening in the Fall season in Colorado.

Living Systems Institute continues its tradition of offering one gardening workshop for every four seasons of the year, with our Fall Gardening Workshop on September 28th. These workshops are free/by donation and open to the public. We continue to be blown away by the community interest and demand for these kinds of workshops, with over 25 people attending the two hour long workshop.

In the workshop, our head educator Zanna Ceesay spoke in depth about our living systems philosophy, including telling the story of a carbon molecule's many "adventures" through a robust living ecosystem (adapted from our organization's Agents of Habitat curriculum, available on our website). She emphasized the importance of allowing carbon in your backyard to continue cycling on-site, including placing weeds right back on the ground where you pulled them to return to the soil, and not exporting or importing garden materials whenever possible. She also spoke about the importance of building soil and both growing food AND caring for wildlife habitat, as part of resiliency for our local communities in troubled times.

One of of our gardeners with Reinhabit, Chase, even videotaped the entire lecture and some of the hands-on education as well. This is our first time video-recording a full workshop! We hope to edit and upload the video to our website and/or Youtube, to make this education available to even more people. The image is a screen capture from the video recorded (unfortunately we didn't take many photos of the event this time).

This action brought together community to meet each other, discuss their questions, learn in a hands on way, and enjoy each other's company for a potluck that took place after the class. Community members traveled from all over the region to attend this workshop, as LSI is filling a unique niche and need in the Denver area permaculture/homesteading community. Our events have consistently had ~20 attendees for the past couple years at least.

Folks were sent home with informational handouts, as well as a brochure for our Reinhabit gardening and landscaping service, with folks being invited to get more involved as either a landscaping client AND/OR as one of our "carbon cycling certified" gardeners. There were also personal connections made & exchanging of contact info for people with compatible interests or requests and offers.

LSI relies on community support of both donations and volunteers to continue to be able to offer these Four Seasons Gardening workshops for free. Thanks for your support!
