IMPACTS
The goal of this action was to construct the first bamboo shelter for the Coliazul Community Project, which would serve as a storage space, a temporary classroom for the children’s program, and a hub for community gatherings. The structure is an essential first step in establishing the Coliazul Cultural Commons.
The action began with the harvesting of bamboo from a nearby organic permaculture farm, La Joya del Sol, and the H.O.M.E. Farm project. A group of eight community members worked collaboratively over four days, harvesting the bamboo, then treating it with ecological products for long duration of the bamboo. Then prepared it for transportation. The transportation team, consisting of two people, coordinated the logistics to bring the harvested bamboo to our project site in San Salvador, Diamante Valley.
The space has already hosted multiple sessions of the Coliazul children's program, providing a nurturing environment for creative learning and connection with nature.
Collaboration is Key: The project emphasized the strength of community collaboration and the value of shared resources. Our successful harvesting and building process demonstrated how collective effort can bring a vision to life.
Using local and natural materials like bamboo reduces costs and also aligns with our mission to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship within the community.
