Carya Farmland Commons

Carya Farmland Commons

Carya Farmland Commons is protecting a 43-acre Midwest savanna where Alex Tanke's hybrid hickory, persimmon, and honey locust breeding work can continue. The goal is to secure these rare genetics and create a farmer-led commons so the land—and decades of breeding progress—aren't lost to logging or conventional crops. The property produces fruit and nuts, builds soil, sequesters carbon, and serves as a living genetic repository.
